Incinerator: Decision to scrutiny committee

12th March 2011 - the following article is reproduced by kind permission of Lynn News

OPPOSITION leaders on Norfolk County Council have referred the cabinet’s decision to press ahead with the proposed Lynn incinerator to the authority’s scrutiny committee.

In his request for a call-in, Labour group leader George Nobbs said opponents’ arguments were “disparaged” during the meeting and criticised the cabinet for failing to give campaigners the opportunity to reply.

Mr Nobbs said the committee, which has a Conservative majority, could vote to reject the call-in proposal. But he warned: “I think they would be very foolish to do that.”

The next scrutiny committee meeting is scheduled for March 22, though it is not clear whether the incinerator will be discussed on that date.
