INCINERATOR POLL RESULT: 93% SAY NO

1st March 2011 - the following article is reproduced by kind permission of Lynn News

MORE than nine out of ten voters have rejected proposals for an incinerator to be built on the outskirts of Lynn, it has emerged this afternoon.

Results of the West Norfolk Borough Council-organised referendum, released in the last few minutes showed 92.68 per cent of voters had voted no on the Saddlebow scheme.

More than 70,000 residents voted - a turnout of more than 61 per cent.

Of those, 5,173, or 7.32 per cent, voted yes, with 65,516, or 92.68 per cent, said no. There were 74 spoilt papers.

West Norfolk Council Ray Harding said: “There has been a high level of interest in this issue and the poll has given people the opportunity to make their views known.

“The turnout shows how strongly the people of West Norfolk feel about the proposals.

“This result will be made available to Norfolk County Council, the authority that will ultimately make the decision on whether to permit the construction of the incinerator in King’s Lynn.
