Thirty children from Redgate School Choir travelled to Norwich on Wednesday 11th March to sing in the Norfolk County Music Festival at St Andrew’s Hall.

Taking part in the two part school choir class, the children sang two contrasting pieces – Swing Low Sweet Chariot, an American Negro spiritual and The West Indian folk song, The Wreck of the Sloop John B made famous by The Beach Boys in the 1960s.

The adjudicator, Sue Nicholls, commented on the sweet vocal sound the choir made. She said that the choir performed a ‘very musical interpretation of Swing Low’ and that ‘the lovely rendition of ‘John B’ captured the atmosphere very well.’ The children’s singing was awarded Highly Commended Plus.

Music Teacher, Helen Hitchins, said the music festival provided a wonderful opportunity for children to perform in an impressive concert hall in front of a large audience. She added: “I am really proud of the children and pleased that their hard work and dedication had been recognised.”
